I’m very happy to announce that I have had a new essay published over at BiblioBuffet, called “My Brain on E-books“. I summarize my (admittedly limited) knowledge of how the brain works and what happens to it when we read online, and make a connection–I hope not too far-fetched–between what reading on the Internet does to our brains and depression.
Precis of my dissertation: A study of Shakespeare’s portrayal of the figure of the writer

My dissertation discussed whether Shakespeare portrayed writers he knew as characters in his plays. Juliet Dusinberre, who edited As You Like It for The Arden Shakespeare, believes that he often created characters who speak with the voice of the author of the work that was Shakespeare’s source for that particular play.
